Polywater?

So it looks like there was a tiny race in the sciences back in the day when Boris Derjaguin published his and Nikolai Fedyakin's findings of the existance of the water. It was proposed to have a higher boiling point and a lower melting point. As everyone wanted to find this more stable form of water, questions arose.

Eventually the whole thing was proven wrong and the hype over the matter seems to have overtaken the reasoning ability in the scientists involved.
